The country is an archipelago located in the Pacific Ring of Fire
and in the most active tropical cyclone basin in the world.
This makes the country highly exposed to a multitude of natural hazards,
including frequent and intense typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis.

The Philippines experiences an average of 20 typhoons annually.
Climate change is
exacerbating these risks.
Warming ocean waters are increasing the intensity of typhoons,
leading to more "super typhoons" with devastating wind speeds
and storm surges.
Rising sea levels also threaten the vast coastlines where a majority of the population resides, increasing the risk of flooding and coastal erosion
